The Evening Echo is a daily newspaper (and now a website) in Essex in the UK. Sales at this time topped 100,000 papers each day.

Brief

Readers had donated money to pay for a young boy, Glen James, to travel to the US for a life-changing operation. Surgeons removed a large, benign growth from his jaw. I travelled with his family and filed daily reports on his progress. This was the first picture of his ‘new’ face.
